    Updating to latest Snapshot

I posted this in another thread but it was maybe not the right one as it got no response. I downloaded the latest Snapshot. My Heatermeter is currently running a cook. I saw the "AVR Firmware" tab on the "config, home, etc." screen. When I open it, it asks if I want to "Update" using one of...

    The LinkMeter Snapshot and YOU

Secret is to wait until the 12th of this month, when this forum software will be updated from the 90's version it currently runs to something a bit more modern. :) Tom

    The LinkMeter Snapshot and YOU

I downloaded the latest Snapshot. My Heatermeter is currently running a cook. I saw the "AVR Firmware" tab on the "config, home, etc." screen. When I open it, it asks if I want to "Update" using one of the three listed methods. Can I just select the "Local Machine" and point it to the .img...

    Raspberry Pi stopped working

I don't know if you have additional electronics problems, but I had a Pi go bad right away too. Mine was a Pi Zero W (WH) though. It would work for a minute or so then die. Not helpful to you, but it does show some Pi units die quickly. Tom

    Fan On Setting

I am really slow about understanding the settings on the "Configuration" page. My setup is fine and working like a champ out of the box so to speak with my Kamado Joe Classic II.. But what I want to do is have the fan come on ONLY after the servo opens the vent to about 75%... then have full...

    I need a new grill!

For longevity and flexibility, it is had to beat a Kamado if it is in your budget. GREAT (probably the best) low and slow cooker ever (ribs, butts and briskets), flexible enough to easily do hot grilling either direct or indirect (steaks, wings and chops), and capable of high temperature cooks...

    Houston, we have a problem.

I can't say enough about how nice this entire project is. It has been a hoot getting everything together and working. Today is "wire up a blower" day, so I better get going. Tom

    Houston, we have a problem.

Wow, it works. :) Just logged on to the heatermeter.com/devices site... and there I am. :) Thanks for the help. Now I only need to wire up either the adapt-a-damper or the micro damper (I 3D printed both versions) and see if I can get that going next. Since I will be using this exclusively...

    Houston, we have a problem.

I think I have it worked out. It was a bad SD card. Now it powers up, shows the pit temp (thermocouple style) and in a bit, the network address 10.0.0.166 shows in the window. All the menu stuff shows in the display as I go through it with the right button. I hope that is correct. Now I...

    Houston, we have a problem.

I removed the Pi board entirely, and when power was applied, I got the message"No pit probe". So there is either something wrong with the Pi, or the img file I guess. Tom PS: When I tried with the Pi board installed, there were no flashing lights on the Pi Zero board lit... I don't even see...

    Houston, we have a problem.

Downloaded the img software for my Pi Zero with header from heatermeter.com/dl. Used the recommended img writing software to write the img to a 32gb SD card. Put the card in the Pi reader slot. Applied power. And this is what I got... Any suggestions? Tom PS: Says I can't post...

    Thermocouple Choice

    Thanks, another good alternative. Tom

    Thermocouple Choice

Thanks, that's great. Those are really inexpensive and I didn't know if they were suitable. I'll get both and see which works best for me. My current Wireless thermometer doesn't have the alligator style clip, and that looks like it would be handy. Tom

    Thermocouple Choice

Is this thermocouple an acceptable choice for the grate probe? https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0142RXG84/tvwb-20 There is this alligator version too: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0142SKL0Y/tvwb-20 Tom

Which Raspberry Pi of these two should I get?

Ordered the W WH. Thanks, Tom

Which Raspberry Pi of these two should I get?

Wow, thanks guys. It just looked at the Zero W and it is only 10 bucks. As long as I can connect wirelessly with my home WiFi, that looks like the best dedicated option. Tom PS: The W WH has headers installed. Are these the same as needed to connect with the other boards involved?

Which Raspberry Pi of these two should I get?

Title says it all. Here are the two I am looking at Raspberry Pi 3. https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B01C6FFNY4/tvwb-20 Raspberry Pi 3 B+ https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B07BC6WH7V/tvwb-20 Both come with 2.5 amp power supplies. This Pi will only be used for the Heatermeter...

    HeaterMeter Gurus Wanted

Great info Bob and Martin, can you expand perhaps on the choice of Raspberry? And I could not find a single set of instructions in one place. I found a forum, but the thing itself is so variable, there was no simple step-by-step guide. Please adapt your language as though talking to a dog...
