    Genesis 1100 rehab

The last thing for me was the wood tables and shelves. The original wood was in decent shape, it was painted grey and I thought that if I were going to go to the trouble of restoring it, I might as well get some new wood. I bought some Spanish cedar, cut it to the correct size, sanded it and...

    Oops I Did it Again!!

The 4000 came in two color choices, maroon and grey, which is what you have.

    Oops I Did it Again!!

I know that it has been mentioned before, but what is that "extra" knob on your control panel? I think that definitely makes this grill a 4000

    Oops I Did it Again!!

Looks like a Genesis 4000 missing both side flip up tables. But I can see the end brackets that would hold each table. Also, I guess a 4000 would have had a sideburner instead of that side table. But the lid is the right color for the 4000, I think that was called Grey.

I wouldn't waste the time or money for a flipper grill.

More pics and more details... I restored the manifold completely. Valves taken off and completely disassembled , lubricated as per the HOW TO video. Shined up the valves, sanded, cleaned and repainted the manifold then reassembled . Dyed the control knobs black using the Rit dye technique...

I will just leave this here

You ask a philosophical question and you are going to get many different answers. I am not far different than Jon when he describes his motivations. I am not a flipper, maybe a collector, but mostly a hobbyist. I enjoy the process, from the initial acquisition to the final product. I enjoy...

It doesn't seem to be, I actually got this idea from other posters on this forum.

Bruce, After the electrolysis is done, (which is the nice thing about it because you can't over do it), I wire brushed out the INSIDE of the frame pieces and treat the inside of all of the frame not next to the cook box with Eastwood Internal Chassis Frame Black Coating. The inside of the frame...

I think you are seeing the plastic insert where the flip up table hinge rod fits in to.

    Genesis 1100 rehab

Jon, I have posted before about electrolysis, here are some pics of my setup, although these were not from this grill. These pics are from a previous rehab where I had the frame sandblasted, but the process looks the same. I am still looking for a vessel big enough that I can lay the frame...

my background includes building plastic models, so the emblem was painted using Testors red enamel paint with my modeling paint brush. Not that difficult actually .

    Genesis 1100 rehab

This was a quick one that I need to do for my step son. He wanted a small gas grill, preferably NG and black. I picked this up at a junk dealer for $20. It seemed solid as far as the frame. No serious rust. Had an LP manifold and was missing some of the shelves. But I had a vision and some...

    Are these manifolds different?

My original grill that I purchased in 1995, was a Genesis 2000. At the time, the dealer was giving the option to add a side burner to the gril, replacing the wood side tablel, thus turning it into a functional 3000 model. I still have the original right side table for that grill, never used it...

    What to do about rust?

Nice lid, no fade? I'm not seeing the rust in that picture.

    What to do about rust?

I’ve actually had some pretty good results using electrolysis as a method for rest removal. I have done Z brackets like yours (mine weren’t quite as rusted ), I have done a propane tank scale, and also I have used it on some frame pieces that had some rust on the inside of the frame piece. I...
