Cooking three 10 lb pork shoulders on the bottom grate and St. Louis ribs on the top rack of my 22" WSM. 7 hours in to the cook and shoulder temps are 182, 165 and 164. All three are foiled and charging hard for service at 5:00 pm.
Hello Friends, (imagine Jim Nantz's voice...) I'm looking for a thermoset side table for this new to me Genesis. I rescued it today and outside the chunk of thermoplastic indicated by the arrow, the unit is otherwise minty fresh. It appears that these pieces are D/C by Weber and neither...
Thanks for posting the goal picture Rich. I'm hoping that I can get mine to look that good when I'm done. I started degunking last night and its going to be a much more time consuming rescue than the one I detailed in the Lil Green Machine thread. Even so, I like the challenge of bringing the...
LMichaels - Well played. By flaky I of course meant wonderful. Even so, I'm not terribly concerned though as the first rehab I did was my 2002 Genesis Gold C that I put on her patio last month. My FIL had displayed his typical frugality at all costs mentality by picking up a drugstore el...
Probably my eye! I was calling it Mica since that's what comes up when I use the Weber grill ID tool. If I call it "Jade Green" it might even be collectible. I do know that I like it. I actually took my wife (SWMBO) with me to pick up this orphan and she said the same thing about the...
I found a 2001 Genesis 1100 (I think) on C/L today. I got it for $40 and it included 2 full tanks since the owner was moving across country and didn't want to deal with packing propane. It was obviously rode hard and put up wet so it's going to get a full set of flavorizers, tubes, igniter...
I've used Zepp Heavy Duty Citrus Degreaser on my last two rehabs and it worked incredibly well on the porcelain and the frame. Plus, it's citrusy fresh! IIRC, I picked it up at Lowe's.
KellyMc, it's the spotty texture as well as the comparison in results between the Silver C and B that I did. With the C, I didn't take it down as aggressively but just wire brushed it to knock the loose crud off and scuff the factory surface, then painted over with two coats. The B went down...
This. After rehabbing my Green Silver B, I think I will do the less extensive sanding on the outside of the boxes going forward. I'm not sure the juice is worth the squeeze when it comes to taking it down to bare aluminum.
I am putting my rehabbed Genesis Silver back together this week and I'm glad I read your post Ed. I've got a bottle of anti-seize on my shelf that I will make use of when I put the firebox back in.
This is all awesome advice. I spent some time reading Mary's thread on her resto on the blue Genesis before I took on my own rehabs. The toothbrush sized wire brush sets and the wire cup and wheel additions to your tool inventory will make life easier for sure.
Thanks for the welcoming posts and encouragement. I've done a couple of rehabs using the tips from this forum in the last month or so - my 02 vintage Genesis Gold C and a black Genesis B that I picked up on CL for $40. It's a nice feeling to bring one of these back to like new shape and then...
