I think it would work well with ribs too! Haven't tried it yet. I just use the store bought Chinese 5 spice. Not really sure what all is in there. I know it has cloves, Cinnamon, and I 'think' nutmeg. Not sure what else. I'd be interested in making my own blend though, if you have a recipe to share
