Well some new info on my end cap problem. Walmart Supertech brake cleaner DOES remove paint. I sprayed a little on the end cap I painted with Ultra, and the spray paint ran off like it was water. This was 6 days after spraying it. I’m guessing my scraping and sanding loosened up the original...

Thanks for all your help. Luckily I have two grills I’m picking the best parts off for my keeper. I’ll do another sand and throw these end caps on the flip grill. I’ve started stripping the other end caps to bare aluminum so hopefully that will go better for the keeper.

Scrape sand then wash with water. Let dry then brake cleaner to remove any sanding residue. To be clear, the old paint is what continues to flake, not the new paint. As soon as I started spraying the new on I would see the old paint coming up.

Well I scraped sanded and decreased the end caps and tried my hand at Ultra. It looks like absolute crap. Even though I scraped really well, and sanded three times, and scraped again and sanded again, there are still little pieces that decided to start flaking once I painted with Ultra...
