On my phone, having a heck of a time trying to post any photo. I don't have the side box yet but it is a $60 stand alone coal grill or add on to the side of the charcoal side. Requires some tweaks to the things to get it to work well, but who knows...
Appreciate all the advice folks. Just spent 2 hours seasoning the gas side (and slapping some lard on the coal side) and about to throw a strip on to try cooking. It seems like this should work but it is really funny watching the parts function so similar to a Weber, but just...Not. It was...
Unfortunately already deleted, but this is the link to the company web site:

Oh believe me I know what you mean, this was basically my wife trying to help me get a grill after ours died, and agreeing...
No worries, this was given to us, only $$ I've spent is the heat shields ($15 on Amazon like you said) and sweat from taking it apart and reassembling it. Just need to look at the lower barrel and see if they painted it, some overspray I think. My kettle grill I've had for 6 years finally died...
Been searching for a Weber to restore, hasn't come together yet. In the meantime I returned home from work and found out my wife had agreed on FB to take in a free Char-Griller Duo 5050 that was going to be homeless. Long story short, I'm restoring this grill but found out that the original...
I sincerely appreciate the advice folks. I may shelf the project for now and just keep an eye on CL for anything that pops up. This has taught me what to look for in an older Weber that has been "restored" and what is worth the $$ vs what is just someone reselling a washed grill with new...
Hey folks, so I've been looking at various local CL ads and looking for a path forward to getting a Weber. I was able to grab a Silver C that needs frame work and a new firebox (nothing is truly free LOL) and continue to look at ways of restoring one Silver C for my own use, but that is of...
True, it would just take time. Two small kids at home that take up most of my free time. Plus I will need to find a viable firebox replacement before getting this running. This one is flaking apart at the middle burner tube something fierce.
Oh yes, your solution to this problem is a good one. I may go that route if I get a solid firebox to drop into this frame.
Still weighing the options of saving this grill. I can see this ending with 2 or 3 scavenged units to get one good one. Or *gasp* buy a new one. I just like these.
Finally got the time to pull the firebox off the frame. Everything was rusted locked on, bolts sheared off or disintegrated, but Hoppes #9 does wonderful things.
The traditional rust location in all its glory:

The metal is still solid. I can't push my finger through anything...
Yeah, I think I will try to cut that bolt tomorrow and see how bad the frame is, if I can save it, great. If not, I can always keep looking and try to build a frankenstein
Gah! Twice this has deleted the post vs editing it 😂
Ok so... photos first
Much rust at the firebox bolt. Very sad. Trying to figure out if I can save this or if it's not worth it. Also because of:
Bulge above the middle burner tube, the aluminum there is flaking away like it is...
Man! Trying to reply on my phone is not easy. Spent the afternoon powerwashing, SO much gunk removed.
Going after the firebox tomorrow, see how that one bolt comes out and how the frame condition is there, from the outside it looks solid. I did see a slight bulge on the firebox above the...
Sweet, just recently picked up a SunJoe MPX3001, and it did a heck of a job cleaning off the siding of my house. Can't wait to see what it will do to the grates, and this smoker box the guy threw in:
