WSM 18 up for sale in San Jose

Hi All, Looking to make some room for my newly built UDS, so I'm parting with my venerable WSM. I replaced the mid-section with that has a thermostat wire port and added gaskets to the lid and base, making it leak free. It comes with a heavy duty Weber cover and various water pans. It's all...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Final Observation: As the charcoal burns down and the coals get spread out, the temp begins to oscillate. This occurred after 3 hours of cook time with the amt. of charcoal I used. I pulled the middle section of the smoker off and piled the coals together near the fan. Temp oscillations...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Using reg. Kingsford charcoal seems to cure my instability problems. What charcoal are you guys using? I suspect that the problem with natural charcoal is because natural stuff burns hotter but doesn't necessarily burn as steady at low temps as reg. charcoal. Now my WSM and Stoker work...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Interesting comment about the fuel type. I've been using Royal Oak natural and Kingsford competition. Both burn hot and fast. I'll try some reg. Kingsford this w/e. I have a spare charcoal grate that I can use to raise the fire up so that the fan blows under it. I'll just put a brick on the...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Yep, I'm the same way. I had to convince the wife that this wasn't just a gadget for me. It was an important tool for good BBQ. It's hard to argue with Harry's success. Lots of other guys on the circuit use the same combo, too, so it can't be bad. Lookin' fwd. to your report on how it...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

+1 Most people I know are happy with their Stoker, including me. It works flawlessly on my Klose. I'm simply having problems with it on my WSM, which means that there is nothing wrong with the Stoker, just my WSM. I suspect it to be airleaks. I bought my WSM used and did too good of a job...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

I understand. Stokerlog's only involvement is to be report what I would not otherwise be able to see. I know that the problem is with the WSM. It is a combination of how the Stoker reacts to/maintains the fire, the top vent position and the amount of air leakage. I'm just trying to figure...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Thanks for the response. I had the lid open box checked on the first mopping event. Stoker Log did not detect lid open until 15 minutes later. At that point, Stoker Log (rel. 5) lost connection. Upon restart of Stoker Log, it stabilized the temp. I unchecked lid open and brought the pit...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

Sorry, but I don't have permissions that allow me to post a graph. The top vent was open about 1/4, all others are closed. Temp was set to 245. During the test today, I set the temp to 230. The Stoker brought it up to temp fine, temp settled, I opened lid to simulate a mopping event...

Stoker Overshoot Probelm....could StokerLog manual fan control help?

I'm currently battling this same problem - wild temp swings on my WSM - and find it quite aggravating. I thought that it might be because the fan (5 cfm) wasn't big enough to stoke the fire properly during the initial short duration fan pulses. I tried a 10 cfm fan figuring that it would...

    Klose pit + Stoker/Guru

Hi, I have a 20" Klose backyard and use a Stoker. At the recommendation of John of Rock's BBQ, I got a 25 cfm fan. Never had a problem with it trying to keep temp. A 10 cfm would probably be too small for mine. The one I have has a main chamber that is 50" x 20". Hope that helps.

    Stokerlog Version 6

Amir, I'm about 4 hours into a cook and everything is working flawlessly with 6.6. Nice work!! I do plan to back off the f/w some since I, too, have noticed that the latest version is slower. I love this program though. It really adds a lot of value to the Stoker. Dave

    Stokerlog Version 6

Hi, Amir: Thanks for the edu-macation. Everything seems to be working as designed then. I'll test it on a real cooker today, but I'm expecting all to go well. Btw, I saw an old screen shot of Stoker log, I think on John's site, where the fan graph actually showed two levels, obviously...

    Stokerlog Version 6

Amir, I think you've done it!! Just need to verify a couple of things first. 1. No errors of any sort during testing, but I noticed that after about 1.5 hours of not reaching temp, the fans resort to running constantly. I suspect that is a result of the algorithm used and therefore by...
