I was researching the latches (the ones I got were too long and had to pick up others anyway), and found that they have a version of the latch with kick-out spring. See page 224 for the kick-out spring version. Don't know if it's worth it for you to change it at this point, but that looks like...

Perfect. I think I found some on eBay. If I can't find it at the local hardware stores (or something similar) I'll just grab them from eBay.

I wanted to get those latches too. Where did you pick it up? I stopped by a Lowe's and couldn't find anything similar. Going to try Home Depot next.
