Just an update, I have cooked 7 times with this setup. Two of those were 8hr slow cooks and one 2hr cook. The slow cooks averaged 185 degree and the other cooks averaged 300 degrees. No signs of any wood fatigue, or wood charing. The temp around the lid of the grill is only about 10 degrees...

Steve, it's not water tight. Just wanted to make a barrier between the grill and charcoal. When it's not in use it will be stored in the garage.

Thanks for all the compliments. I just built it and I plan on keeping it in the garage when it's not in use. I just ordered a beer opener so that should be a great finishing touch to it. Hope that the snow stops for a bit so I can put it to use tomorrow.
