I got a box full of polder units and extra probes collecting dust. I went nuts when they came out with their "dual probe" unit but all the probes ended up malfunctioning (even the replacements).
I've had good luck with maverick, though I did burn out a couple of their probes too (user error, not mav's fault, be careful when using probes with high heat sears).
anybody use thermocouples? I missed an opportunity in grad school, my p.i. did a ton of stuff with them, I didn't, so I never figured out what I needed to make and use them (ah, the arrogance of youth, and how it always come back to haunt you).
I'm kind of done playing with toys, these replacement probes for my mavs are costing me enough that I'm thinking I need to start investing in some real equipment that I can configure for multiple uses.
I've seen units like this:
extech referenced in discussions about sous vide cooking, but I haven't started looking for a source nor what to do with it.
