From: The Old Farmers Almanac

Yield: Serves 4

4 1-ounce slices ham
4 1-ounce slices mozzarella cheese
8 slices Portuguese bread
4 eggs
2 cups milk or cream
confectioners' sugar
Make 4 sandwiches with the ham, cheese, and bread. Combine the eggs and milk, and holding the sandwiches together, dunk them into the milk and egg, but don't soak them. Grill on both sides until golden brown. Serve with confectioners' sugar or maple syrup.

Variation: Add a slice or two of tomato to each sandwich before you grill.

Isn't that a Monte Cristo? At least here in New England that's what the diners call them.
They are tasty!

It's a variation on a Monte Cristo. The ones I've eaten are ham and turkey with American and Swiss cheese, between two egg-dipped pieces of Wonder Bread Texas Toast and cooked on a griddle, then sprinkled with powdered sugar and server with jelly/jam on the side.

Regards,
Chris
