Weber Genesis Special Edition E-310 Grease Tray Question

Inherited a lightly used 2013 Weber Genesis Special Edition E-310 from a neighbor retiring to Florida. Everything cleaned up great, replaced the heat deflectors and the ignition module. The grease tray is in excellent condition as well (the infamous part number 6257) except that the lower heat shield is loose where a few of the rivets have rusted away. I can either drill out and replace the rivets with nuts, washers and screws or re-revit the shield back on. However, I do see that aftermarket replacements do not include the shield. Should I just remove it altogether? I do understand that it serves a purpose in the event of a grease fire to protect the tank - but that does seem unlikely. Thoughts?

Welcome Mike. They made two versions of that tray. The one without the heat shield is for NG models. I would probably feel better about having that shield in place, Weber put it there for a reason. Of course, I don't think Weber sells the original ones anymore so there's that.

Mike,

Welcome!

I would re attach the heat shield, or outboard the tank.
