Mushroom & Swiss Burger

I've not been happy with my few attempts at a mushroom swiss burger and this idea has been rattling around for a couple of months..... finally got around to trying it.

First the sauce - half a red onion, probably half a pound of crimini mushrooms, half of a Rogue Mocha Porter beer, and a couple slices of Swiss cheese:

onto the grill, covered, for about 20 minutes:

I'll probably lose a few of you here, but way back when, I worked at Burger King for about 2 weeks when I turned 16... they had this nasty sauce we'd put on the mushroom/swiss burgers but I really liked it. That's been my motivation :) and that's why I added the Cream of Mushroom soup.

Everything inside (toasted Ciabatta bun)

annnnd plated. I went and picked up some JD for the turkey brine, I was awfully tempted to pick up my fresh turkey today as well but I'm going to wait for Monday. These glasses came with the booze, holiday special :)

I can recommend this recipe to everyone who would like the best Mushroom & Swiss burger I've ever had :) (outside of Burger King, of course)

I put the sauce on the bottom bun, then the burger, then more sauce on top.

You are the new Burger King bro! Looks/sounds awesome. i cant be there but have a glass for me aswell

That's a great looking burger, Clint.

Now that you've got a stock of JD, remember that it works very well in homemade BBQ sauce.

Very fine looking burger Clint. That sauce looks delicious. I never had anything close to that elaborate at any of the BK's I've been to.

I have a theory that Burger King is actually good, but I've never been to one where the employees took pride in their work or gave a flip. Last time I went I got a double whopper. Both cheeses were stacked on the 2 patties, I complained to the manager, I watched them remake it again the same way. The manager said that's the way we make it. Last time I've been to Burger King.

But I'd eat that burger your way!

Noting wrong with a little assistance out of a can. That sauce is really thinking out of the box, looks great and bet it tasted really good, nice cook Clint!

That is a great idea for a burger, I do mushrooms, onions in butter then add a little garlic salt and then yoshida's. Going to give your's a try, I like mushroom soup.

Couple things that might be helpful: the Swiss cheese stuck to the spoon I used to stir with & it stuck to the sides of the pan I noticed when cleaning it (scooped the remainder into a dish for the fridge). I don't know how much of the swiss flavor actually made it into the sauce....that cheese might be better used on the patty.

I added a little Romano cheese towards the end. A little black pepper about mid-cook.

Normally beer doesn't add much, if anything IMO. I just happened to pick up the porter on my way home and thought it might add something interesting----it really added a lot! It's not needed, and red wine would probably work just as well. This porter makes Guiness taste like PBR.

If it sounds good to you - TRY IT!

I'm about to have another one :)

and here it is (was): Just as good as the first time!

microwaved a little sauce:
