will the Q 320 griddle work on the Q 3200 ?

Hi all - I posted this question as a reply in another thread, but I thought it would be good to make it the subject of a new thread.

I just ordered a Q 3200 natural gas grill from my local Ace Hardware store. One thing that I'm a little confused about is that the amazon listing says you can get a griddle that replaces the grate on the right-hand side grate, like on the Q320, but on the Weber website it does not indicate that such a griddle is available for the Q 3200.

Instead it seems to indicate that the "Weber Original Large Portable Griddle" - Part #306560 - should be used. That's the one that's sort of a rectangle shape, with the two short sides curved outwards. Apparently you put it on top of the grates, instead of using it to replace one of the grates. The website listing says "Fits Q 300/3000 and larger grills".

Does anyone know if the old griddle made to replace one of the grates on the Q320 will also work on the Q3200? I assume it has been discontinued since it's not on the Weber website (though the website does have the griddles for the Q 1000 series and the Q 2000 series). I have seen the old Q 320 griddle still listed on some online stores, and I'm wondering if I should get one while I still can?

I certainly hope so as I ordered one online that will be delivered next week! I have the the same model that you just ordered and I'm really liking it. I especially like that it uses natural gas.

Stand down men, everything is OK. Here's my Weber griddle on my 320.

My Q 3200 was just delivered today. (I got it from my local Ace Hardware shore and they put it together - that saved me a lot of time!)

It turns out the two grate sections are exactly alike, so that makes me wonder if they have changed something from the way it was in the Q 320. I have read that in the Q 320 the griddle could only go on the right, so there apparently was something different about the two sides in that model. If a griddle was exactly the same size as a Q 3200 grate then there would be nothing to prevent you from putting it on either side, or even using two griddles.

So that has me wondering again if the Q 320 griddle won't fit the Q3200.

I also read in an online listing that the Q320 griddle is 13x18. Maybe those numbers were just rounded off, but if not, and the griddle truly is 18 inches, then it won't fit my Q3200. The grates on mine measure 12 3/8 x 17 3/4 at the widest points, so if a griddle was 18 inches wide it wouldn't sit flat on the supports for the grate.

Tim Omick, I'll be very interested to hear if the griddle fits your Q3200 when it arrives!

Ken, it is due to arrive this week so I'll let you know. I'm not sure not having had a 320 but I don't think the grill's interior dimensions changed when Weber went from the 320 model to the 3200 model number.

I think the griddle location is because of where the burners enter the grill.

Ken, the design of the griddle prevents the use of two griddles in the grill - two griddles would trap too much heat under them and damage the grill. Weber # 6506 (as pictured above) fits the Q 300, Q 320, and Q 3200 grills.

I received my griddle today and as stated above, it fits perfectly. According to the multi language instruction book, it is only to be placed on the right hand side. Looking forward to trying it out this weekend!

Tim, breakfast on it is a beautiful thing. All the bacon grease runs out the drain holes, down in the fire box and into a grease pan liner which I just pour out once cooled.

That sounds like a good idea, thanks. Question, is there any harm in leaving the griddle installed most of the time? Since I'm usually only cooking for two, the one grate on the left is sufficient.

Hey Tim............I hope not. When I bought it I thought I'd be removing it every cook and replacing the grate. Honestly, I find the darn thing so useful I've just kept it there. So nice for doing some mushrooms and onions on the side, or peppers, or a few slices of bacon for burger topping.

Just remember like any cast, keep it well seasoned. I couldn't be happier with a purchase. A few bucks yes........but has really opened up the grill's uses, Enjoy.

Thanks everyone for all the info. I'm glad to know the Q 320 griddle fits the Q 3200.

But now I find myself debating whether to get that one or to get the new 6560 griddle, which is only about half the price. The 6560 is the one that sits on top of the grates, and it's two sided - one side is flat, and the other side has bars which can put grill marks on your food. The Weber website talks about how it can be good for grilling fish. I can see that the side with the bars would be good for making the grill-like sear marks on fish, without having the worry of the fish coming apart and falling through that you have with the grates. I think another reason Weber came up with this griddle is that you can still have the warming rack in place while you're using it.

But the larger size of the Q 320 griddle would be good too have, too, so I'm just not sure which I want to get.

If you do it right the fish does not fall through. To me that is not grilling BTW. It's "cheating" ;-) Kinda like folks who "grill" on foil

I leave the Griddle installed on the right side of my Q3200. The reason for not installing two Grills at the same time is the Gas needs more air than the grill can get from the bottom. With two griddles installed you would run the risk of the burners going out and then you have nothing but gas building up in the grill. Love the Griddle.

Does it make a difference which side you place the griddle on the Q320, right side or left side? If so, why. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Weber recommends the right side because of the Gas Flow and air mixture.
