dont flame me... im an owner of a performer and silver and have been grilling weber for 20 years. my rebuilt silver seems to not get as hot as it once did- so after 10 or so years with her it might be time for an upgrade.

my question/complaint or whatever-

to me the new webers seem to lack any bells/ whistles as some other brands. searing, inferred
and so forth- at least the ones in my price range- 700.00. anyone else feel the same way??
just to be clear. i will buy a weber because they last last and last.

The bells and whistles come and go and appeal to those who are a marketer's dream. If you want to buy the "latest and greatest" every couple of years, they're OK. However, I like to buy as high a quality product as I can afford - even buying a higher grade product used than I can afford new - and am obsessed about taking the best possible care of them.

That's why I like Webers. If you compare them side by side to the latest and greatest, they may not have all the "bells and whistles" as you put it, but they will be heavier, with better fit and finish and higher quality workmanship.

Why are Webers more expensive? Because they are worth it.

IMHO, YMMV, etc....

Infrared is a gimmick as far as I'm concerned. And there is a sear burner. 2 on a Spirit,3 on a Genesis and 4 or 6 on a Summit. People have been cooking fantastic meals without these "features" for years and will continue to do so!
If you go to Lowes, this time of year there are a bunch of grills chained up in front of the stores. Cheap $150 grills that'll burn a burger or a hot dog all the way up to "commercial" infrared ones. But you never see a Weber out there. Because they don't want to leave the really good ones they sell outside to give anyone an easy chance of a free grill!

Boring? Nah, just not filled with crap you won't use. I had a Char-broil with a sear burner...it was so crappy I couldn't believe it. The trick to searing a great steak is simple: cast iron. If you want grill marks like these then get yourself that Genesis E-310 that fits nicely into your $700 price range

you won't be sorry.

Also the Genesis has a fuel scale for the propane, I understand other grills have this, but I have never owned one with it and it is so cool! I sprung for a $25 grill handle light and I now have the best equipped grill I have ever owned.

Weber- features you need, not features you don't.
