Hi All,

I have a propane Weber Summit 470 & noticed that it was not getting super hot anymore.
Today I cleaned the burners with a wire brush then tested it & with all the 4 burners on it only reaches 475F & about 535F if I turn on the central sear burner as well
It used to get to well over 600F before.

Any sigggestions on what to do next please?

Thanks,

Zak

If the safety valve in your propane tank has tripped, it typically occurs because of a sudden change in pressure, often due to opening the propane tank valve too quickly. When it trips, you will get low flames and low temps.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
1. **Turn Off Everything**: Ensure all the burners on your propane grill or appliance are turned off.
2. **Close the Propane Tank Valve**: Turn the valve on the top of your propane tank clockwise to close it completely.
3. **Disconnect the Hose**: Unscrew the propane hose from the tank.
4. **Wait a Few Minutes**: Give the tank a few minutes (usually 1-2 minutes) to allow the internal pressure to stabilize and reset.
5. **Reconnect the Hose**: Reattach the propane hose to the tank securely.
6. **Open the Tank Valve Slowly**: Turn the valve on the propane tank back on, but do it slowly to avoid triggering the tank safety again.
7. **Test the Grill or Appliance**: Once the propane is turned on, try lighting the grill or appliance. Everything should now work as normal.

By following these steps, the safety should reset, and propane flow should resume as expected. If the issue persists, it might be necessary to inspect the hose, regulators, or valves for potential damage.

Hi Zac,

Did you verify the temperature with another device?

Do you have blue flames with yellow tips?

Could be a few things:

Dirty valve orifaces
Obstruction in the manifold like a spiders nest
Flaky regulator
Cracked burner tubes

Thanks for the quick response.

I will check the flame & temp with another device but it definaltley does not seem as hot as it was before. Was easy to burn burgers with the two middle burners set at half way before. Now it takes so much longer to cook them.

For the other suggestions are there any guides \ links on how to check or rectify these please?

You can even try a different propane tank. Could be a bad O ring in the one you’re using.

Lots of good answers there. Also a burner is not clean unless every port on it is fully cleaned of any scale/corrosion. Another thing to do is if you have some form of an air compressor (even a little hobby type one will work), blow them out especially after you've really cleaned all the ports on them. I also flush them out really good with a good spray solvent like BrakeKleen then blow them out. You could also flush them out with water on your garden hose, again you'd need a good amount of compressed air to blow them dry
