Weber Spirit 210 Vs. Ducane 3100

Getting my dad a new gas grill this summer and am entertaining the idea of getting the Ducane 3100 to replace his over 13 year old Weber Spirit two burner.

The Ducane offers three burners compared to the Spirit's two. The Ducane's burners run vertical (front to back) and the spirit's run horizontal (side to side).

Will the Ducane hold up as long as a Weber? That is my main concern considering he never puts a cover on it and it will be out in the elements all the time in Iowa.

i guess they are so close that you probably need to just buy on what you want. both are on the low end of the products weber puts out so they will need more care later. so if you want three burners in that arrangement then go that way. if he did well with the weber then go that way as he is used to it and won't have to relearn how to cook on a differant grill.

Is there something actually wrong with the existing Weber ?

According to my dad (who has replaced the burners, grates and flavorizer bars once), the whole bottom of the box is rusting through and that it is on it's last legs. I'm visiting him this summer, and thought it would be nice if I bought him a new one.

Hey Andy

Something is not making sense here....the Spirit doesnt have an enclosed bottom to it..just a drip tray which funnels the grease to a catcher in the tray. The actual cookbox is made of aluminum, so that wouldnt be rusting. Maybe he just wants to update! If so, the Weber is still made better then the Ducane in my opinion. We sell both and the Ducane just feels cheaper...when you move the grill its more flimsy then the Weber. But it does have a little more room and its a 3 burner which does give you a little more control, but I dont think that Ducane would last 13 years like your old Weber would! Definatley look at them both before you buy....good luck!
