Weber Genesis Junior-Replacing Quick Release Tank/ Fitting

Hello.I am a new member and this is my first post. I purchased a Red Weber Genesis Junior 2 Burner Gas BBQ in1992.
It is still going strong and I love it. But I can’t use it right now. My propane tank is empty, expired and I was already running into problems getting someone to fill it because of the quick release fitting attached. I don’t know where the serial number is on it if I contact Weber. I watched a video showing how to replace the regulator hose. The hose on mine is in good condition and I don’t know what hose to buy that fits. What is the best way to go about retrofitting my BBQ so I can screw in a new propane tank? Any help with this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Get the proper sized Acme nut (I think it’s 1/4” NPT) and replace it on the hose side of your regulator. Take the fitting off that tank and you should be in business. It looks like the threads are there on that tank to accept the new style fitting.

Otherwise local co-op’s that do bottle filling are usually pretty helpful with replacing the valves and inspecting the tanks.

Love the Jr. by the way! Looks to be in remarkable shape for an unrestored original!

Thank you! I will look into purchasing an Acme nut and get my neighbour to install it for me. I live in Toronto- I don't know if we have any local co-op’s? I adore my Red Junior and even the ignition button still works. I look forward to get it fired again.
Get yourself one of these https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Heater-Propane-4-Inch-Thread/dp/B001H9K7WY?tag=tvwb-20 and install on your has line. Be sure to use a little compound for gas seal on the threads. EZPZ
That is so helpful of you to give me a link to the part that will fit my Junior grill. Thanks! I appreciate it.

I just wanted to mention is the tank is expired- I will be purchasing a brand new tank. Do I still take the fitting off the old tank as part of the fix? I have no clue about these type of things (female)

Nah, just buy the new ACME nut, and the new tank. You're golden. Though one piece of advice. Check your LP line from the regulator up to the grill. If there is any dry rot going on rather than buy the nut, then simply buy a whole new quality regulator. But, by all means, if the hose is good try to stay with the OEM regulator as they're as good as they get on those oldies. They're quality Made in USA parts. And they will RARELY fail.
As to the help. Hey, it's what 98% of us try to do here.

Thanks so very much for your help and specific instructions. It is just what I needed. I am so glad I joined and have quickly made contact with such nice people.

Just one more question about thr Acme nut I am about to buy to solve my problem with the quick release connection. My Genius XX1 Junior BBQ has an output of 22,000 BTU. Some of the ACME nuts say up to 80,000 BTU. Others are higher-200,000 BTU. Does it matter with the BYU’s are on thr ACME nut base on mu BBQ?

I like these Marshall brand Acme nuts because they are the same brand as the original old school quality American made regulator hoses that came on classic Weber grills. I would also trust Mr. Heater brand which I believe are still made in America. A cheep import acme nut may work flawlessly but I would trust one of these two brands over them to work properly and optimally.

Same here. I have had the el cheapos fail to make a solid connection to the tank either allowing leaking or no gas flow

Ok, here we go again. Weber Jr. BBQ: Amazon.ca Marshall Nut says female pipe thread and the other- Heater says male thread. What do I get?
I am quite sure it will need a male fitting. To be sure, simply remove the current POL nut on the regulator. Then simply match what is there

They're both male and female. The part that hooks up to the propane tank is female and the other end that goes into the regulator is male. Don't forget you will need an 11/16 deep socket to properly install and tighten.
