i have a 3-burner Genesis that i purchased new IIRC in the late 90's. over the years the instruction manual had found a good hiding place. i had always assumed it was a Genesis 2000, with a long frame and side table on both ends.

i went on an archaelogy hunt in my basement just now and found the manual. the grill is a Genesis II. where does that fit in the 1000/2000 etc lineup from 25+ years ago?

If it's a Genesis 2 it's much older than late 90s. Did you buy it new?

Genesis 1,2,3 model years were 1985 through 1992. Genesis 1000/2000/3000/4000/5000 were 1993 and later.

@Ken Ba can you post pics?

Does yours have casters on the left legs, or is it a solid leg without a caster?

i finally was able to find the original owner's manual in my basement. it is dated 11/87. so i probably bought it in early 90's rather than my faulty memory earlier of late 90's. interestingly, the cover of the manual says "Genesis II", not "Genesis 2". so DanHoo's message above tells me that this pre-dated the 1000/2000/3000 series. that is what i was wondering about.

Here's a little bit of extra info on the old Genesis models. These are the old serial number prefixes.
