I recently bought a weber 22.5 one touch gold off craigslist. However, the base is out of round. I know this because I tested my lid on my neighbors otg and it fit fine, but when I tested his lid on my base, it did not fit so well. I searched and only found solutions for when the lid is out of round. What should i do?

Take a tape measure and see how far it's out. Measure the lid also.. Then at it's widest point, use your hands to (carefully) squeeze it together. (like you're crushing a can)
I had to do this on my BNIB 22.5" WSM. It doesn't take much pressure so don't go too far.

i actually had one that was more than an inch off. no way i could manually fix that so i made a tool out of two pices of 2x4's
and made them into a tool that you can spread or pull together a base or lid.
but a little should be easily bent back.

If you can you can find or borrow pipe clamps you will be able to bring it back into shape. Use towels or something so not to mark the porcelain. Tighten the clamps at the widest point about an inch and then back off and measure keep doing that but don't pull it in too much at one time. It's really no great deal if you are patient and take your time.

You could also use on of those cargo ratchet straps. My dogs were rough housing around and knocked my OTG over.
Same as you the bowl got out of round, used a block of wood at the high point and wound the strap around the bowl setting the lever over the block of wood.
Gave it a few cranks and it came back to true round.

Quite frankly, I don't think you need any of these contraptions suggested to tweak an out-of-round kettle or lid. I've picked up severely out of round kettles in the past and all I did was lay them on its side and used my body weight to tweak them. They can take a fair amount of bending before any damage is done to the porcelain. YMMV. :)

Our God given hands are our best tools.:) I used my ratchet strap like a band clamp just like when I built something round. When my dogs took out mine it had a slight egg shape on one side. I was going to cut a 2x4 as a spreader (same size as the top grate) and use a mallet to work it around and back into shape.
Then I saw the strap and my old woodworking class came back. It applies equal pressure all around so you cant overdo-it on one side..

I actually had a lid that was out of round about a year ago and I used my weight and it ended up being too much and being out of round from the other side (still fixed it in the end, just went at it from a different angle).

I ended up doing an over the top bear hug a few times with the bottom part and it worked out fine. Thanks everyone.
