I have a Tru-tell BQ300I've installed at the top of the lid on my wsm. It's worked well for the last 4 years I've had it, but the angle is such that I cannot tell what the temp is unless I'm pretty much standing over it. Installing it at a 45 degree angle would have been a better choice. The BQ575 wouldn't work due to the 6" stem (not to mention the $103 price tag too).
Anyone know of a way to mount the BQ300 at an angle using the existing hole? I thought I saw a post from a number of years back, but that post seems to be gone now.
You could try a 1/2" NPT straight leg female gas line fitting made for flexible supply's for dryers.
Grind or cut down the female side for a better angle.

Thats the direction I was thinking too. I might have to widen the hole slightly, and then make 45degree cuts to both ends. I'll make a mockup to see how this will work.
That image wasn't what I was use and since I couldn't find a decent one I took some pics. This is how it looks on the inside with a new one. Side view, top view, and a fender washer to cover the hole. It should have enough meat on it to grind down the angle ya like, then hold it on the inside of the lid and thread the Tel-Tru in it.
