Tried a new angle grinder head today I liked for cookbox cleaning.

I was cleaning the cookbox of a Silver B and tried out a different nylon filament head on an angle grinder that I thought worked well. My last cookbox I tried flap discs and wire cups and always worried about taking off too much metal. This disc I got on Amazon seemed to do the job and was not too aggressive with the aluminum box. For the inside corners and tight spots I used a regular drill with a wire brush:

That did a better job than I would have thought.

I actually have two of these in a box somewhere that I ordered a year ago and who knows if I will ever find that box

I will pass the wisdom forward that I learned here. When grinding cook boxes especially with a high speed grinder please set a fan on high right next to you to blow the harmful dust away from you and also wear a respirator. I am soooooo guilty of just diving in thinking if I hold my breath I will be ok......I only scrape boxes these days.....but I will probably set off a metal detector with as much aluminum that I inhaled. Fan.....respirator.....eye protection.......enjoy

Thanks Jim. Your advice is very important. I'm using a face mask, two layers of eye protection including a face shield, ear protection, long sleeves and heavy gloves but I missed something you just mentioned that will change the way I move forward. I'm definitely now going to use a fan blowing the dust away.

Very smart of you to do so. When I started in the hobby I did mostly old school Weber grills and they all required the very toxic High Heat paint and grinding out the cook boxes. The pro's here on this forum steered me in the right direction to be careful of the wires flying off of the brush cups.....the nasty aluminum dust.....rust dust......etc. I still break the rules every now and then but it just aint worth it to not be careful. But with all of that in mind jump in and get that bad boy restored.
