Tips for grilling a steak on a gas Go Anywhere?

I went out and bought some shrimp and a steak to grill tonight without realizing it was a Spare the Air Day. Even though I'm a bit of a pirate I'm going to respect that. I have never grilled a steak on a gas grill. Any quick tips? I'm googling and also searching the forum - I'm about to step outside and so I thought I'd post and see if anyone had any tips. I'm a hardwood briquette/lump girl, this'll be an experiment!

The other thing is I could freeze the steak . . . but oh. I don't want to. I want me steak, yarrrrrr.

Thank you -

I used a Go Anywhere on a vacation up the coast once, works great. I set the flame to medium, set by sight, and grill direct for about 6 minutes a side.

never did a steak on the ga gasser. i suppose it will work but i doubt you will get sear marks or anything like that. remember to rotate each side as the gasser is hotter furthest away from the regulator. let us know how it went.

Thanks, Chad and George. I did both the steak and the shrimp on the gas GA and while they looked amazing and were the perfect temp, they just did not taste the same. I am glad for the experiment, but next time I'll freeze the steak I think, and wait for better weather.

With that said I'm a hardcore fire girl - I'm always going to prefer the taste of food over hardwood.

I have found that chicken, salmon and vegetables taste amazing on the gas GA.

Wonder if anyone has tried GrillGrates on a Go Anywhere gasser, If they fit, they would give pretty good gill marks?????

I have Craycorts and they gave excellent seared grill marks on my steak (I've never used the GrillGrates so I don't know). But the steak was missing the flavor that comes from it being grilled over hardwood. The steak looked perfect, was medium rare and tasted meh. But I'm good at steaks, my specialty, so I have high expectations for it being excellent. Just not the choice I'll make ever again, grilling steak over gas.
