TelTru Installation Questions


 
Is it really necessary to purchase a stepped drill bit for the thermometer install. Couldn't one us a drill bit set and just start with a small drill bit and keep using incrementally larger bits until you have the size hole you need for the install?
 
You can, indeed, use a regular set of bits. BUT BUT BUT a regular 7/8ths drill bit might cost more than the Unibit #4 stepped drill. If you look around at some online resources, you can get the Unibit #4 stepped drill for as little as $20 USD. That's what I did.

And it took me the cost of one broken TelTru and 3 long agonizing years to get up enough courage to drill thru my precious WSM lid and it's definitely not as agonizing as it seems. I wished I'd done the modification sooner and I would have saved the cost of a replacement TelTru.
