Stoker

Is it possible to have the stoker twitter when the stoker is connected to a laptop running stokerlog if the laptop has a wireless internet connection?

Yes. Stoker itself can send twitter messages. Stokerlog used to do that but that functionality broke this month when Twitter changed its interface. Once I fix that, you can use either method.

BTW, I assumed in the above answer that you had setup Internet sharing on the laptop. If you have not, then only stokerlog can do that, once I perform the update.

It's not letting me turn on internet sharing? i get a message saying a LAN connection is already configured with the IP address.

I think I would rather use the email log now that I see that since I have a smart phone and don't really want a twitter account anyway. Do i need internet sharing turned on for this as well? I assume I do.

In the mail settings box is the username and password the ones for the email i am sending to? Do the host, port and from stay as you have them setup?

If you are using stokerlog for anything, you don't need internet sharing.

User name/login are the same ones you use if you used a browser to login and read your email from your provider. Hostname and rest of settings need to be changed for your provider unless you are using gmail.

Tony, what settings are you looking for in outlook? Your email settings? What version of Outlook are you running?

A side note, I setup a seperate Gmail account for my Stokerlog emails rather than mix it in with my daily use accounts.

Yes, I want to have it sent to my outlook email because my phone is synced to my outlook and could use that to wake me at night. I guess I could setup a gmail account just for sending the email. Would I need to use the username and password for my outlook account, or just enter in my email address then?

If you are using gmail, then the user name is your gmail email address. Password is whatever you create for password there. All of this is independent of outlook.

If you are using Outlook with another provider, then those settings in Outlook are what is needed to be put in Stokerlog. The exception is if you are using outlook to sync with your company email system in which case, that method would NOT work with stokerlog and you need to create a gmail account per above.

Thanks guys! I got it working now with a generic gmail account! I love my new stoker! Can't wait to acutally cook something with it now, instead of playing with it on the kitchen table!

Is it possible to only email alarm conditions instead of the log every so often? I would like to have it just email me alarms, then I could use that to wake me up during an all night cook.

I am not in front of my development machine but I seem to recall that you get an email notification when the alarm goes off. So to get what you want, simply set the email interval to a large number. That way, you won't get the regular email but should get the alarm.

You can test this in simulation mode so you don't have to wait for a real cook to find out if it works.

The email quit working. Is it just something with gmail today? I was able to send from my gmail account, but it is not sending from the stoker?

Amir,

The email works at my house, but not at work. Could it be something with the port it is set to use?

I have been playing with the simulator and was wondering what the stability acutally is and what it is based on? Also wondering what the fuel usage is?

Yes, your company may be blocking that access port. I assume you are not using your smoker at work though

.

Stability is a measure of fire temp probe relative to what you set it to. 5% error means that the temperature on the average was 5% off. On my smoker, I achieve 1 to 1.5% by setting the dampers properly. Note that the error is higher when you start until you achieve your target.

Fuel usage is a bit of wishful thinking

. It is just the percentage of time the blower is on. Idea is that the more the blower runs, the more the fire runs, and the more fuel you are using. In reality, I suspect if your dampers are too closed, then the blower is going to run more often to compensate so it is not a direct measure of fuel usage. But it is fun to look at

.

Ok, that all makes sense. I was just trying to annoy a co-worker with emails from the simulator! I will check with our IT guy on getting that port opened back up or he can tell me what port I should be using!
