Stoker Probes without rubber covering

The rubber coupling (I think this is the right word) worn off my Stoker probes. Can I harm the probes using without this covering?

I don't know if it will harm the probe.

What I did when the sleeves came off my probes was to use heat shrink tubes. The tubes will only last a few cooks but they are easy to replace. I purchased a long length of heat shrink from Fry's and cut them to 2". They have an added benefit of fitting through the grommets easily.

They are for strain relief, but IMO I don't feel like they do a very good job tho......

They are silicone tubing. See if you can find some surgical tubing or perhaps r/c plane fuel line tubing (silicone of course). That should do the trick.
