Hi All

I have used my 18.5 kettle one time and when I did I used a whole chimney of brickets to cook three hamburger patties. After that I felt that a whole chimney was a little bit of overkill, But I don't know how much is too much and how much is too little. When you cook on your 18.5 kettle, how many brickets do you use?

Hi Chad.

I dont have the 18" but i always use more then "needed" in my 22. And then just reuse em next time. That way i can get some nice sear temp everytime. But i would say i use a chimney in my 22" so a whole for an 18" is maby a bit overkill for burgers.

kinda need to see for yerself. how many did you have left ? maybe cut that down by half and see. but you should always have some left.

Welcome, Chad!

Check out this link.

I have a couple of 22.5" kettles and, like Wolgast, almost always use a full chimney for every ("quick") cook, reusing the remaining charcoal on the next cook. Looks like Weber recommends 40 briquettes for the 18", either direct or indirect. I'd start there and, as George implied, find out what works for you.
