I'm using this, https://store.weber.com/accessories/category/cook/cookware/1421, on top of the Smokey Joe charcoal grate for cooking with used briquettes. It allows use of small bits of coals that would fall thru the regular grate but does cut down the total surface cooking area. After the grill is shut-down and things cold, you can just shake the basket a few times to get rid of most of the charcoal dust. Also the basket fits the Go-Anywhere charcoal grill for direct-indirect cooking zones.
