Silicone Spatula????

I just got the gourmet grill, with the ceramic covered cast iron grate insert for the 22.5" OTS. I noticed in the care and use directions it mentioned NOT to use a metal spatula on the ceramic CIG insert. I know a lot of people here have this same set up. Do you really use a silicone spatula? Seems kinda nuts.

Gene,

There are many different "plastic" spatulas that will not harm your finish. I use plastic instead of silicone.

I use high temp silicone on my Teflon skillets. Wooden spatula-like tools work well too. If you are using the metal spatula in a horizontal scraping motion, not much to worry about. When you (or someone else in the family) uses it in more verticle, chipping approach that the flakes might fly. I use metal in my enamel and Teflon carefully and no problems after years of use. One brother-in-law started whacking and I had chips in no time. It really depends on the angle of attack.

My last gasser had porcelain coated grates and I used a metal spatula with no trouble. Just use a little common sense and it's all good.
