I thought I would share a little invention I have been testing. I use this in the Kettle. This will also fit on the bottom of a WSM and/or perfectly where the water pan goes. This way you can move the heat source closer and use less charcoal on a long cook. By the way the weber bottom fits as well if you want to hold more coal. It also makes it easier to switch cookers and move your charcoal.

This picture shows an 18.5 inch lid with the center cut out (Jigsaw). I installed steel mesh and screwed it in with the shortest sheetmetal screws I could find.

You know those two piece charcoal baskets that you almost never use? Take them apart and set either one or two side by side to hold the charcoal in. Adjust them depending on how much charcoal you need. This picture shows one.

You can make one of these baskets for any size grill or WSM. Just use one size lower than the grill you are making it for. So start cutting up those old kettle parts. Good luck
I realize not everyone has extra parts, but believe me this has become my most important accessorie. It's worth looking for an old 18 inch that has seen better days and sacrificing it. Out here in Nor Cal I get Webers free sometimes or cheap around five bucks. That's why I have so many extra parts.
