Saw a new Weber Griddle Yesterday

So yesterday was out at Farm & Fleet. Noted they have the new Weber griddle (Slate IIRC?). I have to say compared to the first time I saw a Weber griddle (pre Slate) this thing was SOLID. Right next to a Blackstone of same size. BS was crazy flimsy in comparison. Though it was about $200 cheaper. But, I could definitely see someone paying the extra $200 when looking at them side by side.

I am fairly impressed for what Weber has put out for the latest model and calling it the Slate, I don't recall the name of the first offering, it wasn't horrible and almost seemed like they rushed it into production, but I think they nailed it with the Slate and the accessory line for gadgets and gizmos that a LARGE portion of the griddle community seems to love.

Yeah I've got the Sam's club one which should last me a couple more years. But, I have been eyeing the slate every time I go to Ace Hardware. I am wondering if it would actually be easier to keep it seasoned than the cheap ones, I think it might be based on the texture of the surface. Very impressed with the design. I am going to let the reviews keep flowing in while I hone my griddling skills.

I wasn't using my slate a ton last year.....I was having a hard time getting a hold of the way it cooks...
Tried a bunch of new things this year and I am having a ton more luck....it makes awesome grub.
Happy slate owner here.

If I was gonna buy a griddle I'd still go for the nice 5 burner Member's Mark over the Slate. Because for half the $$$ I think you have 90% of the quality. But, I wanted to give credit where credit is due. And I was impressed with how far improved the Slate is over it's (Weber's) previous offering.
Having never (and likely never to) used a griddle though, IDK. There may be some outrageous cooking difference between the MM and the Slate. Again, I'm not judging there because of lack of knowledge. Although I have to wonder. You have a big heavy slab of steel on top of a few burners. How "different" can they be?

Yeah I'm really happy with the build quality of the MM, I just find it hard to keep seasoned but I'm not sure if that's just the nature of griddling. Weber says "The carbon-steel cooktop is transformed under extreme heat and pressure that case hardens and bonds the surface, reducing the ability for moisture to collect and rust to form." Could just be marketing but it hits home because if I don't have it seasoned perfectly ill scrape too hard and rust will show through then I end up scraping it down and re-seasoning. Griddling is a whole different animal but I absolutely love doing smash burgers and tacos on it.

I could see it being a little bit of "fun" but I'm not into that enough to make it worth me going out and dropping a few hundred on an appliance I really don't have room for and one that's high maintenance to boot. Hell I got 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters. Enough "high maintenance" for me :D
