Rotisserie questions for performer

After reading about all the great rotisserie meals on here I decided to look at getting one. The weber website says the one they sell wont fit on Performers newer than 2010

So I was wondering how to tell what year my grill is, I just bought it off of CL.

And I was also wondering why it wont fit on the performers to begin with. If its just a matter of the lid holder, I'm sure it could be modified, but don't want to order it if its something that cant be overcome

Thanks

Hey Rick, take a good hard look at the Cajun Bandit rotisserie. They make one that fits the Performer and if you turn it over it fits the WSM, it's also SS. When looking for the year your Performer was make just look for two letters on the vent. Such as AU which I think is 2012. If you go to the Weber web site they have a chart with all the letters and years on it. Good luck and good smoking.

Rick - not believing that the ring wouldn't fit on the newer Performer bowl, I had to see for myself. I have a '98 Performer and a '11 Performer. I've used the '98 with the rotisserie, but not the '11. I set the ring on the newer Performer and initially thought it fit fine. But then it rocked back-n-forth. The little welded on L-tabs on the roti ring weren't sitting flat on the bowl. Instead, the ring was sitting on the washers for the lid bale assembly. I moved the roti ring back to the '98 and the L-tabs sit flat all the way around.

So, it 'fits' and it'll work fine as is, but if it were mine --- I'd see where I wanted it to sit and trim a hair off of the ring where the lid bale nuts & washers are. Not anything that would prevent someone from getting a roti set-up over. Weird that Weber would make such a minuscule change though.

As for finding the year of your grill, look on the lid vent. Under the Pat Number, find the 1 or 2 letters. This one says EZ

With that info, find the letters/years of your grills. :)

Thanks for all the great info guys. I will have to check on the year when I get home.

I just saw in my email that my sear grate and griddle have been delivered so I will use them for a few days before I need another toy

....Oh, I almost forgot that a buddy of mine gave me a rotisserie set. There were no brackets and no ring but I think if I get the Cajun bandit, I can make it work.

Fingers crossed

As Chad said it will work but it is not ideal. I have used mine on my 09 Performer without any problems, although it definitely fits my 99 Performer and OTG better. Personally, I don't see it as a show-stopper one way or the other.

I like the Cajun Bandit ring myself but it is fair to note that the new Weber ring has done away with the tabs used to balance the ring on the kettle bowl and have copied the Cajun Bandit style of fitting flush. The weber ring is not Stainless Steel.

The info on the Weber site is incorrect. The model 2290 rotisserie was redesigned in March 2012. It fits the new and older models. The only indication of a revised model is a red sticker on the box stating it fits all Performers.

Read the Amazon reviews. Note the reviews beginning in the summer of 2012 no longer complain about the fit problem. It apparently took some time for Amazon to deplete all of the old stock and/or people to stop talking about their pre-revision purchase.

If ordering through Amazon be sure to use the TVWBB link to Amazon to help support the site.
