I see freshly hit deer and elk near our cabin every few weeks or so
They are car hit and most have to be dispatched.
You have to call authorities to get approval and a quick issue special permit tag.
There is even moose but I’ve never seen one here that has been hit.
So the other day the wife and I saw a fresh still alive elk that a trooper was about to dispatch.
Those things are huge
I’m like “we gotta get that one”.
Wifey is “like no way in hell”.
So we were going back and forth while we are at the store until I said that’s a thousand dollar bill.
She then “get‘s it”.
When we went back to get it we saw it being loaded into some ones truck and I lose a freezer full of meat.
In Alaska if you sign up they will put you on a list to call for these fresh kills.
I am going to stop by and see if there is such a program up here in the Olympic Peninsul.
It is a bit of work but if you shared the labor and harvest with a friend or neighbor it wouldn’t be that bad.
Heck you could actually drive it to the game possessor and make out ahead.
So would you eat fresh road kill?
