Apologies if this has been covered .... but has anyone
noticed the price of replacement grates lately?
$40 freaking dollars for a hinged top, and charcoal gate???
And thats the cheapest I can find thru Amazon. It was going to be
$48 at my local Ace Hardware.
I was buying this set last fall for $28, and $22 in 2018.
What happened? Is this the result of the Chinese import tax bs????
 
There is a site you can search for on Google called camelcamelcamel
Go there then copy paste the Amazon link to the product. It’ll give you some historical prices for the project. You can see when price jumped
 
It is getting harder and harder to find them on close out. Places aren't keeping as much Weber stock on hand because people clean them out at the end of the year close out rather than buying during the season If they are for your own personal use it is probably just better to buy a few SS grates and they should last pretty much a lifetime.

If you are looking for them to throw in grills for resale or just trying to give a rehab and put any kind of grate in it there isn't really a good solution at the moment. I would almost be certain that the combination of import taxes and it being off season is keeping the price high at the moment.
 
Yes that’s what I paid to rehab mine. Honestly in hindsight I could have probably cleaned up the charcoal grate though. I think Weber is trying to get people to second guess rehabbing
