Q200 using Weber propane cannister

I have just got as a gift the Q200 which uses the big propane gas, over in the UK these are quite tall and unsightly and makes the grill not very portable for the beach, are there any kits that I can use connect it to the Weber canister for when I want it more portable ?
Thanks in advance

just looked at the uk site. now i'm confused. they show a small replacable can as you mention. then they show a hose that can adapt them to a large bottle. so something is missing in the middle. suggest you go to a weber store or call them and ask them whats up. and i agree, not very portable if you have to drag a big tank around.

contacted Weber and they said they only run from the large bottle due to the fact they would get through the small cannister too quick, I just wish I had the option if I wanted to take it to the beach to run from the weber canister

The 200 will run just fine from the small bottles. I have done it many times. They don't run really long maybe an hour to hour and a half wide open IIRC but they can get a nice cook done and give full temp with no issue whatsoever. Perhaps the folks at Weber thought you were speaking of the 300/320 which yes uses too much gas to effectively run the small bottles

that is whats wrong with weber. they don't give a darn about what the customers want or need. to me thats rediculous. i would try and cobb something that i could adapt a hose and adapter for the bottle. weber? you stink.

not sure what you have available. i have looked for pictures of the valve assembly at the q and have found non. where is the regulator ?

there is a hose from the grill about a 3 foot long with the regulator on the end, where I live this regulator then screws into the gas bottle. So I guess I will need to detach the hose from the grill if at all possible and then attach another hose that will connect to the smaller cannister, I am trying to find out how the small cannister connects on the Q100

do you run yours from the small bottles all the time or do you switch between those and the large bottles, I want a way to be able to switch between the 2 easily so that the grill becomes more portable

The regulator of a Q200/100 is built on to the valve. Not sure why whoever has their undies in such a bunch ("Weber you stink", "Weber you don't care") and so on. As for "puncturing the can" this isn't refrigerant it's propane. The smaller Q series grills have a direct screw in for the small propane bottles. You can buy (and some come equipped) with an adapter hose that screws in to the regulator and in to a larger tank.

I switch back and forth at will. From what I am reading here it seems over seas Weber sells the Q200 series only with a separate regulator much like a full size grill. There really is not much you can do short of ordering a valve assembly from an American Q 200 series. The rub is I don't know what the little propane bottles look like across the pond. It seems Weber made a marketing decision with the 200 series over seas judging by descriptions I read here. That does not make them uncaring or bad. They are simply responding to how the units are used and sold. Here in the states the 100 and 200 series are set up with an integral regulator to the valve making them useable either way. This http://www.grillparts.com/weber/Q200.asp?product_id=80476 is what you need. But I will lay odds the small cylinders are different than ours

What do plumbers use there for running their butane/propane torches? Like this http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...lding/propane-torch-kit/p-1451146-c-10163.htm Or are they even allowed there? The valve I showed you allows a small cylinder like the one pictured on that torch link to screw in. These are about 1 lb cylinders and on the 200 allow for about an hour to 3 hours of cooking depending on how it's used.
If you have these types of cylinders available in the UK perhaps you can retrofit this valve on to your grill?

do these have threads inside so they screw on ? does the regulator valve have this at the q itself. so hard to figure it out without pictures. i have done a lot of searching and can't find decent pics. got any ?

Didn't the link I sent you have a photo of the regulator/valve assembly? I just followed the link it has pics and instructions. What I don't know is if the you have the little propane torches like plumbers use for soldering. And if you do what type of threads are on the little canister. Check this link out to know what I am talking about http://www.google.com/search?q=1+lb...AcPigKgK&sqi=2&ved=0CJMBELAE&biw=1266&bih=599 it shows images of what we use here. I hope that helps. Honestly though I have never been to UK weird one of the few places in Europe I have not gone to :-) but hopefully you'll get something out of the links I sent
