Hello everyone. My name is Paul. I live just outside of Detroit, MI.
I’ve been a Weber grill fan for as long as I can remember and really appreciate the quality and coolness of the older (1900’s) Genesis grills. I have rehabbed a couple of them but nothing about them is really special. Just cleaned them up, a little paint, new ignitor, grates, bars, etc. Easy stuff. I worked on them when I had time and both grills came out nice and functional.
Sooooo…yesterday I was looking for another project grill on FB Marketplace and stumbled upon a grill with a blue lid and an AFF logo, side burner and left and right wood folding tables for free. It looked in pretty rough shape and lister said needs a regulator but I thought the blue lid was cool and different. The listing was posted 3 minutes before I saw it and jumped in my van and drove over an hour to pick it up not knowing if it would be there or not. Well after a couple wrong turns and a missed exit I arrived and it was still sitting by the curb. I couldn’t believe it with the luck I’ve had previously with free curb pickups or listings.
Anyways, after bringing it home and looking online to try to find any information about it, I realized there isn’t much out there about this particular model. I was able to make out a serial number (ER 419268) off the very faded label and it came out as a Genesis 3000 Blue LP AFF. Not sure what AFF stands for but who cares. I think it’s a cool grill but I can’t imagine that it’s a very rare find (probably golf outing raffle prize, sales top earner award, etc.)
As mentioned, the grill is in pretty rough shape but everything seems to be there. I’ll get a better idea of what kind of headaches I’ll have once I give it a scrubbing and try to take it apart.
I am writing this post to share my find and am hoping some members can help me find a schematic and provide any information before I get started tearing it down.
I plan on posting the rehab process once I get started on it. I’ve never really done much more than before and after pictures for just me but this may be worth sharing. This may be an adventure for me since I’m not very tech savvy. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Paul
