POE


 
From my experience with Raspberry pi, the pi will not work with PoE. But you can go the the link provided, if you have not already been there, and purchase this device and they claim you can do it.

Would be interesting to see if it will work. Brian probably has the answer. If you can, it looks like a new design will be needed. The big issue I see is how are you going to attach the HM board to the pi.

I wasn't thinking of using a HAT rather I was thinking of using one of these, that splits the power and ethernet. This one provides 12V (supposedly at up to 2A) through a jack compatible with the heatermeter and and Ethernet tail to plug into the RaPi.

I have tried it, not connected to the blower, servo, and it seems to work OK, didn't have the time to risk it on a smoke for Xmas. I will give it a go later in the week and see how it gets on. If it truly is 802.3at it should be able to provide 25W, though 12V@2A suggests a slightly lower 24W.

Has anyone else tried this?
