I'm new to the group (thanks!) and I will be picking this up (freebe) from Craigslist tomorrow morning and am beyone excited! It's setup for natural gas right now but I see conversion kits on Amazon that include hose, bit driver and orifices. I'm assuming these are decent kits?

I just can't WAIT to tear this guy down and get to cleaning and painting!Weber 1.jpgWeber 2.jpgWeber 3.jpg

Hey guys!
Got it home and all taken down. I have a question for you. What’s is the material on the shelves and is it worth saving? It feels like plastic but I guess they made it look like wood? Do most of you chuck those and replace with wood?

Thanks!

Weber called it Durawood. It's really up to you and your personal preference. One of mine I picked up in like new condition with durawood I originally planned to change out for high-end wood because woodworking is one of my favorite parts but it was so nice and in perfect condition that I wanted to keep it Weber factory original. Plus it will never rot away which is a bonus. A down side is that it can melt if it comes in contact with high heat from the side of the cookbox or BBQ utensils etc. That said changing it out for nice hardwood can be very desirable and rewarding also.

As far as converting from NG to LP you can swap out the entire manifold for one with LP valves and regulator hose or swap out the NG valves in your manifold for LP valves and swap your NG hose for a LP regulator hose.Screenshot_20250719_233247_Photos.jpgScreenshot_20250719_233421_Photos.jpgScreenshot_20250719_233500_Photos.jpg

Yeah, I'll take Durawood any day. Yeah, the real wood looks a bit "classier" but I'm of the opinion that "it's an appliance" not furniture. And the Durawood looks pretty decent IMO (basically the same stuff as Trex Deck material) and quite honestly IDK why Weber chose to stick with gray on that. (I think there were some very dark or even black ones) but gray was more common. If you look at Trex it comes in all type of grains, colors and shades. Weber could have done better here

I might just keep it! It cleans up real nice but there are 2 or 3 burn (melted) spots on it. I might just flip them over and fill the screw holes!
Great info and thanks!

Great info! Yea, mine has a couple of melted spots on the side table. I’ll try to clean them up and if not, I’ll probably flip them over and fill in the screw holes. Not sure yet what would make me happier but I guess that’s the joy of the whole thing. I’m definitely keeping this one!

If some of your slats are damaged you could also consider asking if someone on here has any extra durawood slats that they could sell you just to replace the damaged ones. Not sure how perfect you are trying to make it.

I have one of those bottle hangers from a donor, but in pictures I also see that there are 2 wheels at the bottom and I’m assuming those are just so the bottle has a way to slide up and down easily and not scratch the frame?

That’s a great idea too! I’m not exactly sure how perfect I’m trying to make it either! I’m afraid that if I go too far, I won’t want to use it and that’s NOT what I want….

Happy Friday guys!

This might not be a new idea but I thought I would share it. These slats had a serious bend in them. I soaked them in a bucket with bleach and simple green for a couple of days (for the cleaning) and when I took them out I thought I would stick them under a half full tank upside down on the bench so they could go past flat and bend a little the other way (while still wet). I left them there for the week and they came out great! Perfectly straight again!

Good tip, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately durawood slats can and do warp. I've taken individual slats before and just bent them in the other direction by hand and it sort of works. I'll try your way if the situation calls for it in the future.
