Performer gas assist problem.

Screwing on the 1# tank I felt a rush of propane on my left hand and it wasn't fully seated.
Valve was off. I used that tank before so not really sure if it's at fault or the regulator/valve.

Thoughts?

Alright so doing a little "work your way backwards " I hooked up the same tank to one of my torch heads and got a bit of a rush of a propane leak but not as much as the first time on the performer.
Faulty tank? I never noticed that before and prolly hooked up a hundred tanks over the years.
Does the weather have anything to do with it?
Feels like 99 outside, hot and humid.
