So I am getting my new (to me) Genesis 1000 in shape, and once it is done I will have to decide what to do with my old grill. That one is a typical steel frame unit that is rusting away, but I replaced its flame tubes relatively recently, and I am contemplating taking a grinder to it and extracting the three flame tubes and related guts.
Anyone have thoughts on what could be done with those bits, or on whether it's a bad idea? Here are some ideas I have:
1. Fabricate a frame/box that could hold a griddle top.
2. Make a propane fire pit -- the kind with lava rocks over the flame tubes.
