ots conversinon to otg?

can i convert a ots to a otg without any modds? Lots of ots for sale here on craigslist but no otg. So i would need to purchase ash catcher and ring i think. I saw a post on this somewhere but cant find it now. Wondering if it would even be cost effective? can usually find a ots for 20 to 40 bucks. if i wasnt so strapped right now i would just buy the otg.. thanks

the newer silvers have the grooves cut into the leg sockets, so the ash catcher ring will clip in without any modifications.

i believe the ring and catcher is 28 bucks

if the silver is older, you'll have to cut some notches in the leg sockets so the ring will clip on.
 
This can be done wihtout cutting the nothches, if you have an older OTS.

The tabs that hook into the notches are bent kinda inwards. For older OTS, bend the tab outwards and attach with a small ring/hose clamp. i don't have a pic for this, but I've seen it somewhere, possibly on another thread.

The whole ash cathcer assembly is $35-40. A guy on ebay sells them, as of course does Weber. There are 3 pieces - the ring, the handle and the bowl.
