Newbie feeling dumb this morning

I'm just getting started with my HM 4.2 and old RPi B.

I thought I did enough reading before ordering but perhaps not.

I have 2 Thermoworks Pro-series probes (one Air Probe and one Cooking Probe) and both read correctly when plugged into the probe jacks.

first stupid question: do I need to define one of the jacks as the Pit jack? if so, how?

second stupid question: in the wifi portion of the wiki, there is a mention of using the 5v input jack on the RPi since using the 12v HM port may fry components. do I need to do anything (other than to plug the RPi into the HM board, after removing the yellow RCA jack from the RPi?

third stupid question: I can't find anywhere in the Wiki what the default password is (for default user root) to access the configuration menu on the LinkMeter home page.

fourth stupid question: what do the 3 LED's indicate?

thanks!

By default probe 0 is the pit probe. Once you've got the RasPi booted you'll login to the HM web config and set the probe types to Thermowork and you should be off to the races.

The 5v MicroUSB jack on the RasPi can be used to test the RasPi + HM board as only the blower requires 12v. The warning is that if you plug in a 12v power supply to the HM board at the same time as powering the RasPi with a MicroUSB cable, you can fry the RasPi.

You don't need to do anything to the RasPi other than remove the yellow RCA jack and load the HM firmware onto the SD card. Be sure to use the latest development snapshot from https://heatermeter.com/dl/

There's no default password. The LEDs are explained in the web interface.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest having a read of the HM wiki https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki

as you suggested, I installed the latest development snapshot.
I see in the configuration page that I can set Port 0 to Thermistor, but there is no port 0 jack. anyway, I set port 0 to disabled and now port 1 is the Pit jack so that is sorted out.

I understand.

done.

I must have set a password yesterday when I first fired it up. installing the development snapshot solved that problem.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest having a read of the HM wiki https://github.com/CapnBry/HeaterMeter/wiki

I had read it through once and apparently missed the info I needed to properly set the pit probe.

thanks for your quick reply and your help!
