new spirirt e-310.. does not get over 500 on dial thermo

I recently purchased a spirit e-310 and have noticed even after pre-heating for 15 minutes, the temperatures does not get over 500F on the dial thermometer.

Is this common? Also, the burners make a faint hissing sound such as when air is blowing on the burners.

Something sounds off; whether it is the thermometer or the burners is another question. I had the same model. It would usually reach 575 after about 15 minutes, and came close to 600 a few times. I'd call Weber's customer service line.
