saw one today. i was rather impressed and i don't normally do that easily. at least they made the table metal so i think or hope they got the message on that plastic junk. i think i want one down the road.

Glad you were impressed George because I wasn't. Main reason is that, yes the table is metal, but boy it felt flimsy. Extremely lightweight; 20-22 gauge metal, maybe? I really wish there was a little more weight to it.

I don't care much for the powder coated "hammered" finish either.

actually, i pushed down on the table purty hard and didn't find it that flimsy at all. course it does depend on what your gonna put on it i guess. the finish didn't bother me at all, but then i like the industrial look. but of course, everything is subjective. but to me its still an improvement overall.

I realize this is an old thread but I finally had the chance to lay hands on the new Performer Silver to our local Lowes today. I am with W Tyler on this one. I was totally unimpressed. I understand that the market drives production decisions, but Weber seemed to find every shortcut possible in making it as cheap looking and feeling as possible. Believe me, I love Weber products, but they really missed the mark on this one. Looking at the pictures I really though it would be the perfect grill for someone who wanted the advantages of the Performer table but didn't have the space for the larger grill. Even more perfect for someone with a Performer who wanted to add a second charcoal grill. After looking at one in person, I certainly would not be willing to drop that much money for it. IMO, the idea is great, but the quality of the materials just doesn't meet what I would expect from Weber.

Hey Don right there with ya on weber going cheaper on the materials they use. Target had a half price sale on jumbo joes and I thought it might be time to upgrade my old one (smokey joe platinum). Sheesh the thing felt light when I lifted the lid and the whole thing seemed to have thinner steel. Anyway I passed an decided the older version was just fine!
