Hello, I picked up a red head performer last year, and everyone else helped me out so much getting it back in shape. I picked up a redhead silver today, and its not in the best shape.

1st- where the legs join the bottom of the kettle, its very rusted and pitted, there are holes there, and I dont know how long it will stay together.

2nd- where the handle on the lid connect with the lid, its it the same shape as above, holes, rust, pitted, etc.

I am cleaning up the inside right now with Easyoff, I am going to paint the legs, and put some teak oil on the handles, but I wanted to see if any of you people had any input for me to get these situations resolved? I'll post pic's as soon as my new phone gets in (my 2 years old thought it would be funny to throw her dads iphone on concrete).

THANKS!

by the way, i picked it up off craigslist for 15 dollars... Maybe spent too much, but oh well, i love my performer, and Im sure ill love this one too.

Your main concern should be will the legs stay on while the thing is being used. If the answer is no, you definitely wasted your money. That said, if the grates and legs/whatnot are in ok shape, at least you'll have spares if you ever find another bowl/lid.

I would personally avoid any Weber with extra holes in it that Weber didn't put there, especially ones that were caused by rust.

Ill try to get pictures this weekend. It stands up fine, it wont fall over or anything, its just where the legs meet the bottom, there is alot of rust (same with the handle).

One good thing though is that it has wooden handles and I can put one on my redhead performer!
