Need help finding part to setup lots of racks in WSM

Okay, I have an idea....

I want to install as many racks as possible in my 22.5 WSM. This is for ribs, so I want the racks to be very close. The issue for me is having to tilt each rack as we lift it up to clear the above rack supports. I want to do away with that!!

I want all the rack supports (hinged) to fold up when I lift up a rack, and then fall back down once the rack clears it. I know over time I may have issues with them not "falling" back down due to build-up so I may have to keep them cleaned and sprayed with cooking spray. Added benefit would be the racks could be adjusted for larger meats, instead of always in the same positions.

My problem is I can visualize it in my head and I have searched the internet, but I can't seem to find it. LOL!!!

Summary:
- Metal/Stainless would be best
- Hinged
- Supports weight
- Freely folds up flush or nearly flush and than falls back down.
What am I ???

If you are still having trouble understanding my description. Make an "L" with your thumb/index finger. Your thumb moves freely up "flush" with your index finger but when it comes down 90 degrees it is in a support position and can't move down any further. Bolts would go into the side of your index finger against the inside wall of the wsm. (maybe that helps)

Thanks.

Yes grates, sorry...

Hinges, not really, I've searched the internet for days and haven't found anything under hinge that looks like what I tried to describe. The part has a hinge but I'm at a loss....

Just imagine reaching down into your WSM and pulling your grate straight up as fast as you want. No, tilting it to clear the upper support, nothing to catch on because all the supports fold up and then fall back down. You could have 5 grates stacked with ribs and pull each one straight up...

Like a shelf standard with a small pivoting bracket?

Kind of, not that bulky from what I'm imagining. I may just have to make the things...

I've installed cabinets on commercial jobs which have a smaller profile on the standards then the stock ones you can pick up at the local DIY joint.
I would be interested to see what you come up with..

Why not just use smaller grates?

The 22's upper grate is 21.5" but the lower grate is 20.75" and the charcoal grate is 17.75".

I built a stacked grate setup for my 18" using an extra charcoal grate.

Sounds neat, but I'd like to throw out some food for thought. I've installed a 3rd rack in my wsm and I've notice that when I use all 3 and plan to do much in the way of mopping or sauce application, it doesn't take the lid being open for too long for my temperatures to start to get out of control. If you're "doing" much to ribs, you might find the same problem or worse.

I'd consider getting some threaded rod, nuts, and small grates and making a hanging rack assembly. Grab the top grate handles with your leather gloves and just all 5 racks right out of the smoker as one unit, do your thing to all the ribs, then drop it back in. Not as cool, not as adjustable, but no out of control fires either.

Thanks John, thought about that approach as well....I'm not big on mopping, I typically spray an apple juice/honey/etc. mixture from a bottle but worth noting...thanks again.
