Mounting handles on side of 18.5 WSM with hanger for Mavrick ET 732 (or other things)

I went back several pages in this thread and did not see the procedure for mounting handles or temp transmitter so thought I would post it.

Simple procedures and parts required to install:

After handles installed, I found a scrap piece of insulated wire large enough to match hole in handle and bent it as shown below:

Cooking with transmitter hanging and probes running under lid. No heat from smoker at transmitter:

The handles come in handy when loading the coals and it was steady enough to pick up with full water pan and meat at end of cook.

Eric, Welcome to the forum. I do not know what will fit the 22 but you could measure the hole centers to get an idea. Lowes or HD may have something close.

Great video and idea. One question though, can you still fit the Weber factory cover over your 18 WSM with those handles?

The cover is already fits a bit snug.

If not, what do you do for a cover? Have you had any wear or rusting issues with the handles? I'm a bit curious to know how they are holding up.

Yes, factory cover still fits.

One thing I've noticed about covers is that the newer ones are a bit more spacious. I bought a used, 2008 WSM on Craigslist, and the old cover was very snug. I got a new cover from Weber, and it is much more reasonably sized (in fact, I put it on *over* the old cover, and it has room to spare. So I'm guessing the modded handles fit under the newer cover, but perhaps not an older one.
