Just got my Maverick ET-72 pit probe and ET-72 meat probe. I also purchased a high-heat probe, but will have to run another heat up, cool down test to see what it's like as well.
In this test, I'm using the following probes.
Probe0 = ET-72 Pit
Probe1 = ET-72 Meat
Probe2 = iGrill Pit
Probe3 = iGrill Meat
I've also taken individual readings of the 10k resistors on the HM board and am using those values. They're 9955, 9937, 9938 and 9958 for probe0 through probe3, respectively.
I used my handy-dandy egg carton holder on my Weber gas grill. The egg carton was placed on the left side of the warming rack and I used the far right burner as the heat source, ramping up the heat by about 1/4 turn of the knob every 10-15 minutes.
Observations:
1) The Maverick and iGrill probes pretty much tracked bang on.
2) The Maverick meat probe was tracking between 8-10 degrees hotter than the Maverick pit probe
2) The iGrill meat probe was tracking between 10-20 degreees cooler than the Maverick meat probe
4) When I turned off the heat source, the Maverick meat probe, Maverick pit probe and iGrill pit probe were pretty much reading the same temp within 1 degrees.
I'm really curious as to why the Maverick meat probe was tracking hotter than the 2 pit probes when the heat source was active, but then started reading the same as the 2 pit probes on cool down.
