Was curious if anyone on this board had ever built a extra large Jumbo Joe by cutting down a 22" Weber. I have an extra 22" I was considering for this, but would appreciate photos/ideas from anyone that has already done this.

Allen i do not have a jumbo joe but what i did was turn my 18 wsm into a 22.
I took the middle section of the wsm and leveled it. Removed the brackets that hold the grates. Took a ots and set it on top of the wsm middle section. Leveled the ots and drilled 4 holes from under the lip of the middle section at about a 45 degree angle. After drilling the 1/4 inch holes removed the ots and cut out the bottom of the ots. Took some high temp silicone and filled the inside of the lip on the middle section of the wsm. Reset the ots on top of the middle section and bolted together allow 24hrs for silicone to set. So what used to be the charcoal grate in the ots is now the lower great and the top grate is the 22. Two grates a 18 & 22.

Allen - I bought a set of Cajun Bandit legs from the folks at C&C and put them on an old 22" that I had. It's now a really Jumbo Joe. The legs are similar to the legs on the Smokey Joe Platinum but they use the leg sockets on the bottom of the one touch charcoal bowl and bolt into the side of the bowl.

It's a nice look - great for "sittin' and grillin'"

Pat, I like the way you think. Have any pics? And if you don't mind me asking, how much were the legs?

Mac - I'll dust it off and make some pics and post them. I don't recall what Chris charged me for the legs, but when you see them, you may be inspired to see if you can find some flat aluminum stock and fashion them yourself.

Stay tuned!

Years ago I bought some galvanized pipe from HD and made legs on a 22 silver. It's at my dads house but I may have a picture of it. I just screwed in some pipe and then added elbows at the bottom. It probably cost $5.

What would a Cajun Bandit be without the center section?

I've also cut off the legs of 22" kettles and made the Weber "Redneck Firepit"

Drew.. i have one of those in 18" one touch form! it was used to test if a WSM could be used with that feature. I think it's under 2 feet of snow right now!

Allen go to Lowes and buy the cheap $5 Aluminum shower curtain rod and cut it to what ever size you'd like....I replaced my originall legs unsing this idea to make the legs taller due to back problems and it worked great!
