Hello all -
My name is Matt and I am from Waltham. I have two Performers (2003 SSP and 2022 base model - both black kettles), a 2014 black Smokey Joe 14, and a 2012 Genesis E-330.
I have not done any mods, but at this point, the SSP needs a refresh, so I plan on installing new one-touch sweeps, charcoal grate, GBS grate, charcoal baskets, and the new-style Performer lid bail. The propane assist wasn't working when my father-in-law gifted me the grill. I enjoy starting the fire with weber cubes and a chimney anyway, but I just noticed that Weber now has the burner tube/igniter assembly and the new regulator available. The regulator is a bit expensive, but I would like all of the features of the grill working (the original 5lb tank is gone, and I have another that has the modern valve).
If I have a choice (and the time), I grill on charcoal as it just tastes better. The Genesis does a great job during soccer season when speed is required. It's also the only gas grill that I have ever actually liked.
